Jacques Marie Mage proudly announces a special collection of eyewear and jewelry that celebrates the tenth anniversary of our creative engagement with the legacy of the late actor, artist, and director Dennis Hopper (1936-2010). Established in 2016, our partnership with Marin Hopper and Hopper Goods was our first Édition Spéciale, one that evolved into an ongoing relationship that's produced several impactful expressions. Directly inspired by Mr. Hopper’s ineffable style, this commemorative release is a homage to an icon whose life and creative output intersected and dramatically influenced pivotal moments in American culture.

Informed by the creative spirit of Dennis Hopper, these limited-edition spectacles are named after the eccentric high-desert town in New Mexico which served as the late actor and artist’s creative playground. Recalling the idealism and decadence of the ’60s, these re-editions of a style originally released in Summer 2016 are inspired by the actual glasses worn by Hopper in his landmark film, Easy Rider (1969), as suitable for the spiritual thrill-seeker as they are for the secular sophisticate.

Originally released Spring 2018, this is a special re-edition of oval ’60s-inspired glasses recalling those worn by Dennis Hopper in a photograph entitled, “Dennis Hopper in Front of a Dr. Pepper Sign, 1965,” taken by friend and fellow actor Robert Walker Jr. A tribute to those formative years when Mr. Hopper romped around Los Angeles with a camera, capturing the era's countercultural spirit in roll after roll of intimate photography.

A new iconic style inspired by sunglasses Dennis Hopper owned in the 1950s, discovered during an auction of his personal collection. Classic, circular spectacles with a sculptural bridge and soft cat-eye, these collectibles are a tribute to Hopper’s early career, during a decade when he made his film debut in two roles with his friend James Dean, whom he admired immensely: Rebel Without a Cause (1955) and Giant (1956).

Limited-edition spectacles are received in a custom monograph box set that includes: a custom eyewear case handcrafted in Italy, an oversized blue and white paisley cleaning cloth that replicates the original bandana worn by Dennis Hopper in Easy Rider, and a letterpress authenticity card featuring collection notes and craftsman’s signature. Eyewear is also accompanied by an exclusive hardcover booklet edited by Marin Hopper, with a foreword by JMM founder and creative director Jérôme Mage and an essay by writer Sara Rosen, complemented by rare archival photos.
