Lens Guide
All lenses utilized for the limited-edition eyewear of Jacques Marie Mage are equipped with 100% UV protection and conform to ISO 12312-1:2022 standards, ensuring the quality, safety, and ability of lenses to protect eyes from harmful solar radiation.

Anti-Reflective (A/R)
A precision-engineered, multi-layer treatment that minimizes surface reflections, allowing nearly 100% of light to pass through the lens. This enhancement delivers sharper vision, reduces glare from screens and headlights, and alleviates eye strain during prolonged use.
Photochromic
Photochromic coatings adapt seamlessly to changing light conditions, darkening in sunlight and clearing indoors. This dynamic response reduces glare, enhances visual comfort, and provides consistent UV protection, eliminating the need for separate prescription sunglasses.
Polarized
An excellent choice for outdoor activities, polarized lenses filter light at a vertical angle, eliminating up to 99.9% of glare from reflective surfaces—sea, snow, asphalt, and glass alike. The result: heightened contrast, sharper vision, and lasting comfort with reduced eyestrain.
Mirror
Featuring a thin, reflective metallic layer that deflects intense light, mirror coatings reduce glare from surfaces like water, snow, and glass, enhancing visual comfort, and adding a distinctive aesthetic edge.
MARs
A next-generation anti-reflective coating engineered with layered metallic elements and a red-hued AR treatment that absorbs reflected UV light at up to 10x the standard rate. This advanced structure minimizes glare, enhances clarity, and provides elevated protection against visual noise—ensuring a clearer, calmer field of view in even the most demanding light conditions.

The light transmission rate indicates the percentage of light that goes through a lens. A higher rate means more light and a brighter visual experience; a lower rate blocks more light and offers greater protection. Lens categories offer an easy to understand classification of the transmission rate, guiding the selection of lenses based on brightness and environmental conditions.

Category 0 (VLT: 80–100%)
Clear or very lightly tinted lenses that offer minimal light reduction. Ideal for indoor use, nighttime wear, or low-light conditions where eye protection is needed without compromising brightness.
Category 1 (VLT: 43–80%)
Lightly tinted lenses designed for overcast or low-sun environments. They reduce glare while preserving brightness, making them well-suited for cityscapes, twilight hours, or subtle light modulation.
Category 2 (VLT: 18–43%)
Moderately tinted for variable light conditions—sunlight filtered by clouds or light tree cover. A versatile option for everyday use, balancing comfort and clarity without over-darkening the view.
Category 3 (VLT: 8–18%)
Darkly tinted lenses that offer substantial glare reduction. Ideal for full sun and high-glare environments such as beaches, open roads, or reflective urban surfaces.
Category 4 (VLT: 3–8%)
Extremely dark lenses designed for intense sunlight and high-altitude exposure, such as mountaineering or glacier travel. Not suitable for driving due to limited visibility in shaded conditions.

Lens base refers to the curvature of a lens, measured along its horizontal axis. The higher the base number, the more pronounced the lens curve—shaping not just aesthetics, but also optical performance, frame compatibility, and peripheral coverage. From flat silhouettes to wraparound forms, lens bases are a foundational element in both function and design.
0-Base
A completely flat lens with no curvature, Base 0 delivers a strikingly modern, architectural look. Best suited for fashion-forward frames that prioritize silhouette and graphic presence over optical wrap.
2-Base
Slightly curved with a nearly flat profile, Base 2 maintains a minimal aesthetic while providing just enough contour for subtle depth. A balanced option for bold design statements with gentle visual refinement.
4-Base
With a soft, natural curve, Base 4 offers comfortable wear and a versatile look. It provides a smooth transition between the flatness of lower bases and the functional wrap of higher ones—ideal for everyday optical performance.
6-Base
A moderate curve that hugs the face without overwhelming it, Base 6 balances coverage and style. It enhances peripheral vision and wind protection, making it well-suited for active lifestyles and transitional use.
8-Base
Deeply curved for maximum facial wrap and sun shielding, Base 8 is designed for high-exposure environments. Its immersive fit reduces light intrusion from all angles, perfect for sport, travel, and extended outdoor wear.

Hinge Guide
The quiet engine of a frame, hinges define both movement and longevity. Most traditional hinges fall into three-, five-, or seven-barrel classifications, terms that refer to the number of interlocking barrels anchoring the temple to the chassis. While five- and seven-barrel constructions remain industry standards, our collection extends beyond convention, offering an array of engineered articulations—from seamless monoblocks to floating mechanisms. Each hinge is crafted from Stainless Steel and finished with an especially thick plating of Palladium (Silver) or 18k Gold, then fastened to the temple with our signature spur-shaped rivets, which are secured with washers to apply the tension required to reduce gaps and secure the hinge firmly to the temple. All our Circa Collection hinges feature Art Deco-inspired hairline details that match our custom wirecores, providing a cohesive design approach to the detailing on the frames. Ultimately, hinges reflect a refined mechanical choreography that balances strength, style, and comfort.

5-Barrel
Composed of five interlocking barrels, this classic hinge delivers reliable tension and a balanced open-close feel. Durable and versatile, it's a trusted standard in fine frame-making.

7-Barrel
With added barrels for increased surface contact, the 7-Barrel hinge enhances stability and wear resistance, making it ideal for frames that demand greater durability without sacrificing elegance.

9-Barrel
JMM set a new standard with its 9-barrel hinge, utilizing an unusually thick Stainless Steel base to stabilize the hinge positioning and reinforce its structure, offering an ultra-reinforced construction designed with high precision, providing maximum strength and alignment for larger or more technical silhouettes.

Monoblock
A minimalist, single-piece construction with no soldered components, the Monoblock hinge offers clean lines and structural simplicity, streamlined for strength and seamless integration.

Ball
A precision-engineered hinge featuring a small ball bearing for smoother movement and increased flexibility. It delivers a tactile and fluid open-close experience with refined mechanical integrity.

Floating
Engineered to decouple from the temple arm, the floating hinge absorbs torque and lateral stress, preserving structural integrity while enhancing comfort and frame longevity.
