The Dealan takes its inspiration from the black cat-eyed spectacles Bob Dylan wore throughout the tumultuous mid-1960s, from the electric upheaval of Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde to the restless European tour immortalized in D.A. Pennebaker's Don't Look Back. The same unmistakable sunglasses were there when Dylan arrived at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, plugging in before an astonished audience and setting American popular music on an irrevocable new course.
Whether facing a room of impatient journalists, stepping from the back of a touring sedan, or disappearing behind the flashbulbs of waiting photographers, the spectacles became inseparable from an artist who had mastered the art of remaining just beyond reach.
The Dealan 53 presents the spectacle that started it all, rendered in a more generous fit that nevertheless preserves the subtle cat-eye lift, sleek lines, and precious-metal details that first established the style as the original Icon of JMM. Neither nostalgic nor revisionist, it carries forward the original expression of a design philosophy that has continued to evolve for more than a decade.
In the Rover color story, every shift in perspective seems to withhold as much as it reveals, an apt reflection of the carefully cultivated mystique that surrounded Bob Dylan at the height of his transformation.
