STURGES

Sturges

COLOR: HICKORY

YEAR: SUMMER 2020

EDITION: 23/400

FRAME STAMP: JMMST-1D

HANDCRAFTED IN JAPAN

Develop a reputation in this handsome update of the Panto spectacles John Sturges wore throughout the 1960s, when The Magnificent Seven and Bad Day at Black Rock helped establish the director as one of the consummate craftsmen of the American widescreen.

Learned in manner and louche in effect, the STURGES features deep rounded lenses, set beneath an angular brow and surrounded with ample volumes of polished acetate. High-set temples extend the silhouette with sculptural authority, with crisp bevels cutting sharp planes through the frame’s substantial profile and catching light along the edges.

Sturges’s pictures belonged to a world of hard light, boundless horizons, and figures held against the immense scale of the American West. The STURGES returns to that same territory with considerably more polish, carrying the cultivated ease of his signature eyewear into a bold midcentury composition with enough breadth and brio to command the view.
