Troffeo fernet branca plaque, alberto ascari

Select Color: TROFEO FERNET BRANCA, ALBERTO ASCARI

220 USD

Framed in gold and set against white enamel, this small plaque places Alberto Ascari’s name beneath the Fernet-Branca eagle, surrounded by laurel leaves and the colors of Italy and Argentina. Its ceremonial appearance belongs to the trophy room, but the story it records points toward a racing landscape soon to be transformed.

In December 1949, Enzo Ferrari sent his factory team across the Atlantic for the prestigious Argentine Temporada. To help meet the considerable expense of transporting cars and mechanics, Ferrari secured the support of Fratelli Branca. Ascari consequently arrived at Buenos Aires’ Palermo circuit in a scarlet Ferrari 166 FL bearing FERNET-BRANCA in enormous white letters along its bonnet—an extraordinary sight at a time when national colors still governed the appearance of the grid.

Ascari won the race ahead of Juan Manuel Fangio, leading Ferrari to a commanding 1–2–3–4 finish. Produced before the Formula One World Championship had staged its first race, this enameled plaque preserves an early union of driver, constructor, and commercial sponsor.
